History: Jaqueline's life was normal. Not normal in the boring sense of the word, but normal none the same. There were no magic wardrobes that lead to other worlds; no pirates come to kidnap her, and no talking animal companions with which she embarked on epic journeys with. Growing up the youngest of seven children [all of which were boys except for her] Jaq learned to fend for herself at an early age, having to fight off the hoard of boys whose sole entertainment, it seemed, was to play pranks on each other and wrestle.
Having seven mouths to feed, the Hughes' were always tight on money. Between all of them, they ran the family bakery in Clogher just to get by and put all the children through school.
As each child got older and left the house to start their own lives, the Hughes' burden got lighter, their work force getting lighter as well. By the time it came down to the last of the Hughes kids Jaqueline [who was fifteen at the time], the family could no longer run their business alone, their demand having grown considerably. This made them employ a retired cabaret performer by the name of Marcia Grey who told Jaq of big cities she'd been to.
Jaq discovered early on that she had a somewhat amazing voice, but would sing for no one but Marcia [who gave her voice lessons], keeping her ability a secret from the rest of the family. She was already the only girl in a house full of boys, and the youngest at that; she didn't need something else setting her apart from her siblings.
One day, Jaq got up early with Marcia to fire up the ovens. Due to the cold weather and rain, one of the gas valves to the ovens malfunctioned, causing an explosion which killed Marcia and left Jaq trapped under rubble for days. When rescuers got to her, she was barely alive.
After spending months in the hospital, Jaq was released, fully recovered and well, but her hospitalization and the explosion caused great financial strain to her parents.
Feeling guilty for her parents' loss of the bakery, Jaq promised never to leave Clogher, taking care of them until the day they died.
Personality: Jaq is a very happy, very amiable, and very lively person. She loves to talk and laugh, and ever since her parents told her they didn't blame her for what happened and wanted her to live her life, she's learned to put the events of her past where they belong, and look forward to whatever comes her way with optimism.</small>
Notes: Jaq doesn’t actually go to Dymphna. She just works at an on campus café called 'The Flair'.
